Smart cities, smart mobility, smart industry, smart phones, smart watches... Sensors and their data. help us everywhere Also in health care, sports, agriculture and the energy sector. Even in places you do not expect. Sensor Technology is everywhere!

During your studies you will learn all about the use of existing (smart) sensors and their various applications. You will discover how to make the world better, smarter and safer with sensors. Just think of the important role they play in healthcare, high-tech systems or energy. You will develop into a well-educated, highly sought-after professional with a large amount of technical expertise and a thorough knowledge of ICT and electronics.

Why study the Sensors & Smart Systems major at Hanze UAS?
  • Programme developed jointly with the business community: you do challenging, practical assignments at, for example, the Energy Academy Europe or at ENTRANCE, Hanze's Centre of Expertise in the energy transition. You work with real companies in a real working environment. So you gain work experience during your studies and help companies become more effective, innovative and sustainable.
  • Passionate, driven groups: the degree programme is small-scale and personal: you work in small, motivated groups. The teachers know you and there is plenty of room for one-on-one contact. You also have a mentor who plays an important role in your personal and professional development. We also have a really fun study association where you are very welcome.
  • Great job prospects: Upon completing your studies you can work for a wide variety of companies. As a control specialist, industrial automation engineer, mechatronics design engineer or service engineer. Your can do this at many companies from pure product development agencies to multinationals where mechatronics are central, both in the Netherlands and abroad. Many of our students go on to work in sectors such as healthcare, (sustainable) energy or transportation. The chance of finding a job is very high, because the world is eager for well-trained mechatronics specialists.

  • Your qualifications must include mathematics and physics and preferably chemistry and/or biology.

It is the expectation of the industry that a large proportion of the graduates will be employed in areas where the emphasis is on creating new systems, and therefore will take on the role of Technical Designer. A smaller proportion of the graduates will become Technical Advisers. There will also be graduates who will fulfill the role of Project Leader or Academic Researcher. You may even use the entrepreneurial skills you have developed to set-up a new company.

A graduate in Advance Sensor Applications can:

  • Implement new sensors and develop systems.
  • Maintain and manage a large sensor network, with increasing diversity of sensors and data traffic.
  • Create a research programme, which can advise companies about sensor applications in consumer products.
  • Develop an (embedded) software product on a hardware platform, specifying the operation of sub-systems.
  • Develop a sensor platform to implement innovative sensors in a social context.
  • Use new scientific developments to create smarter sensor applications.
