This course involves an examination of the sports business across national and global contexts and allows you to develop a range of management, business and entrepreneurial skills to be able to work effectively in this fast-growing, exciting sector.
What will this course cover?
The degree will provide you with a strong business studies foundation and an understanding of the unique challenges and issues facing sports management.
In the first year, you will focus on the applied business skills, which cover key areas such as marketing, accounting, finance, digital media and communication, as well as the organisation of sport within the UK.
The second year will build on your previous knowledge and delve into a more detailed understanding of the industry with studies in sports consumer behaviour, branding, entrepreneurship, sports enterprise and researching the sports industry. You will also focus on areas such as funding for sport, contract law, governance and policy. You can also choose from a selection of modules in the second year, enabling you to pursue particular areas that are of interest to you such as sports tourism, sports event management, sports communications, promotion and social media. You will also have the opportunity to choose to follow specific business routes in either football, golf or rugby.
In your final year, you will develop your business knowledge and management skills at a strategic level, looking at strategic sports management, managing risk in the sports industry, sports partnerships and sponsorship. You will learn about sustainable approaches to business management, sports stadia and crowd management, whilst either developing a sports business plan or completing a dissertation on a topic of your choice, with optional study modules in sports law or managing professional sport.
