The BA (Hons) Education and TEFL degree introduces you to career planning gradually, starting in the first year and becoming increasingly prominent in the second and final year. We work closely with representatives of the University Careers and Employability team and deliver joint career development workshops as part of the course. Course tutors organise joint workshops as part of the course with career advisors to help you plan your graduate career or postgraduate study plans.

Over the duration of the course, subject knowledge and the skills you develop are immediately transferable to the workplace. Teaching English as a foreign language requires a measure of confidence, punctuality, reliability, commitment, and initiative. Sensitivity to communication patterns and how they can vary has broad appeal in most professional contexts as well as education. Indeed, after subject expertise, communication skills are highly valued by employers across a wide range of professions.

As well as assessing knowledge and abilities, the range of assessment tasks you encounter is designed to authentically replicate the realities and demands of a TEFL practitioner. The opportunity to gain a professional teaching status at the same time as your degree gives you a distinct edge when it comes to your first graduate position. Your more wide knowledge of education will help you contextualise the teaching scenarios that you are experiencing in your early career.
