Primary Education - Later Years 5-11 (QTS)

You will learn about the impact of effective teaching on a child’s education, developing teaching skills through theory & subject knowledge.

Children develop so much as they move through Key Stage 2. They are learning to use key skills like working with others, problem solving and communication. They are becoming increasingly independent and thinking in challenging contexts.

Throughout this degree, you will learn about the impact of effective teaching on a child's educational process, and you'll develop teaching skills informed by theory and subject knowledge. You'll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge in a classroom setting working in all areas of the National Curriculum. You will develop the professional skills of planning, teaching and assessing learning, as well as how to build effective relationships with children.

Areas you will study include professional skills and understanding, special educational needs, diversity, outdoor learning, assessment and child development theory. We'll give you the opportunity for school-based training in Key Stage 2 where you will gain a deeper understanding of the Teachers' Standards, and how to apply theory to practice. In addition, you can also complete an alternative professional work placement where you explore learning in a setting other than a classroom, e.g. special provision, schools abroad, museum and library services.
