A virtual reality game, an interactive video and visual effects in movies have more in common than you might think. These products are all created by teams that combine creativity, technology and experience. Creative Media and Game Technologies (CMGT) offers you precisely this magical combination.

Course content

CMGT offers you a broad introduction so you can really experience the different aspects of the industry. You can experiment with different roles before you specialize in interactive media or in games. And it looks like we are doing a good job, since we are officially qualified as a 'good' programme.

Finding out what you are really good at

In your first year you will have every opportunity to experiment and find out what role in the industry suits you best. You will learn about tools and improve your skills and immediately apply what you’ve learned in awesome projects. The Creative Media and Game Technologies programme is structured around the three most important professional roles in the field: artists, experience designers and engineers. In the first year you can experiment with these roles and subsequently choose the one that suits you best.

CMGT is structured around the three most important professional roles in the field:

  • Artist
The Artist is a talented illusionist. The most important task an artist has, is to create content that really excites the user.
  • Experience Designer
The Experience Designer is the creative jack-of-all-trades who invents and develops experiences that create value for the user.
  • Engineer
The Engineer is a realist who is great at seeing and creating structure. He is especially good at the technical realization of interactive media and games.

Extended Reality Lab

In the lab you will find a wide range of equipment available for experiments and the building of prototypes. This includes state-of-the-art virtual and augmented reality devices, computers, motion capture solutions, cameras, audio equipment, etc.

Choose your role and start your portfolio

After the first year you will specialize in either interactive media or games and will further develop the skills and gain the knowledge you need to grow in your role. You will build a portfolio evidencing your skills and will prepare for your minor or internship.

Doing your minor and internship

In your third year you will specialize further by doing your internship and minor. You are free to make your own choice. In your minor you can focus on a specific part of role. Your internship could be in a Dutch company or in one of the well-known companies elsewhere in Europe, the US or Asia.
