Learn to analyze the impact of our digital culture on individuals, communities, and society as a whole. Digital technologies are an intrinsic feature of everyday life in today’s society. New modes of social interaction have emerged, involving intense activity on social media, the use of apps and information technology. Data gathering and algorithmic patterning influence our access to information, how we present ourselves, and how we see others. Digital Culture Studies is a track of the MA Culture Studies.

In this research-oriented track, you will critically examine existing research frameworks and develop new conceptual and analytical tools for studying emerging 21st century culture. The program addresses a wide range of topical and urgent issues, focusing on what is important now at this moment and on what might become relevant in the future.

  • Research concrete digital-cultural practices from within a broad interdisciplinary social-theoretical field and with an outspoken empirical emphasis.
  • Reflect on questions such as:

    - How do public figures weaponize discourse to provoke and manage controversy?
    - How can the impact of digital media be understood using communication and culture theories?
    - What is the social, cultural and political impact of the ideologies inscribed in digital platforms?
    - What are the ways in which digital surveillance reproduces structures of power?
    - How do digital technologies generate ways of knowing the world and ourselves?
    - What are the social and cultural influences brought by the booming IT business and the everyday digital facilities?

  • Learn all about social, cultural and political transformation of contemporary societies and investigate the influence of digitalization on social life.
  • Turn academic content into publications that are accessible to a wider public through Diggit Magazine, both a learning instrument and an online news platform focusing on digital culture, globalization, and arts. Students develop online publishing skills (including content marketing and Search Engine Optimization), refine their writing skills and, at the same time, build a portfolio.

Digital Culture Studies is a track of MA Culture Studies.
