Accounting and finance subjects at the University of Greenwich are ranked within the top 3 in London for course satisfaction in the Guardian University Guide 2016. Our degree has the highest professional accreditations, increasing career earning potential within accountancy sector. Courses also focus on practical skills using software and systems such as MS Excel, SAP ERP 6.0 and SAGE 50 accounts software.
If you successfully complete relevant course options, you will be exempt from a number of exam papers leading to professional qualifications from ACCA, AIA, CIMA, CIPFA, CPA Australia, ICAEW and IFA. This will set you on the path to becoming a qualified accountant after university.
We have strong connections with companies in Canary Wharf, one of the UK's financial centres. This offers you networking, mentoring and internship opportunities, making it a perfect location to start your career.
You will have the option to undertake a work placement, providing insight and practical skills which employers seek in graduates. Previous university students have secured placement years at Lawrence Grant solicitors, IBM, Northern Trust, Goldman Sachs and Currency Exchange Corporations Ltd.
We will encourage you to join societies such as Trading and Investment and take part in competitions for example the UK Trading Challenge. We are proud that our team of first year Greenwich students won the competition, beating teams from many other universities.
Our degree will help you understand financial and management accounting, and how it affects planning, decision making and budget control.
You will learn to prepare financial reports and use software and systems, building your practical skills in lab exercises such as MS Excel, SAP ERP 6.0 and SAGE 50 Accounts software.
Courses will give you confidence in analysing and communicating information, so you can explain concepts and manage new projects. This will develop your core skills so you can choose to take your career in any direction.

Graduates entering the accountancy profession may go into public practice by joining an accountancy firm. This can offer you the experience of working with multiple clients across various industries or the opportunity to specialise, for example, in auditing, stockbroking or consultancy.
Recent positions secured by our graduates include assurance associate at Grant Thornton, financial modeller at KPMG and counter risk trader at Barclays Investment Bank.
