Spatial planners are fascinated by on-going and future changes in cities and regions and take on the role as managers of spatial transformations - think of: regenerating shopping districts or old industrial sites; designating water retention areas; shaping urban mobility concepts for the future. Related challenges vary in scale, from individual property to European policy making. Within the Master's Spatial Planning, you have a choice between three Master's specialisations.
Specialisations

Cities, Water and Climate Change. Are you interested in climate proofing cities or in making cities climate-neutral? This Master's specialisation prepares students for working on the nexus between urban planning, water and environmental management.

Something for you?

  • You will develop governance strategies for climate proofing cities and for reducing urban carbon emissions.
  • You will develop strategies for flood risk management in delta areas.
  • You are trained to think outside given boxes, by combining well-established core courses with electives.
  • Small, almost 'family-like' department that covers a broad range of topics with a strong track record in related research.

Planning, Land and Real Estate Development. This specialisation provides a land and real estate development perspective on urban development. The programme aims to prepare students for a future role as city developer, either in the public or in the private sector.

Something for you?

  • You will develop smart and sustainable solutions for actual and future planning problems.
  • You are interested in developing a different understanding of planning and forms of practices.
  • You are trained to think outside given boxes, by combining well-established core courses with electives.
  • Small, almost 'family-like' department that covers a broad range of topics with a strong track record in related research.

Urban and Regional Mobility. Are you interested in increasingly complex flows of people and goods in the networked city and region? This Master's specialisation will prepare you for dealing with integrated mobility systems and transport modes across spatial scales.

Something for you?

  • You will develop smart, integrated and sustainable solutions for actual and future planning challenges.
  • You are interested in developing a different understanding of planning and a diversity of practices.
  • You are trained to think outside given boxes, in a program with well-established core courses and personalised electives.
  • Small, almost 'family-like' department that covers a broad range of topics with a strong track record in research.

Upon completion students will have knowledge of:

  • Interfaces between different planning concepts, sectors and interests
  • Synergies that are found and trade-offs that are made along these interfaces
  • Paths through which integrative planning is manifested in policy formulation, decision-making and projects at different geographical and institutional levels

Spatial planners from Nijmegen work as policy maker, consultant or project manager for government, consulting firms, project developers, housing corporations or research institutes. Also, more and more of our alumni are working in international projects.
