Our Leisure & Events Management degree really brings out your creative skills with its focus on devising concepts and developing meaningful experiences. You learn about concept & creation, marketing & communication, economics and corporate social responsibility.

The programme covers a range of aspects of leisure and events management, from trends and development analyses to concepting and sustainability. You’ll also develop insights into business models and carrying out company scans, feasibility and viability as well as expand your knowledge of different languages and develop your intercultural communication skills. You’ll also develop your personal skills and intercultural awareness, so that you become adept on a personal and professional level.

With the Leisure & Events Management programme, you learn to create meaningful experiences. Experiences that make a difference in the international leisure & events industry. You develop your creative and organisational skills and nurture your drive to explore diverse opportunities when it comes to leisure, events, sports, arts & culture and tourism.

The main focus of the leisure & events management course is on creating meaningful and memorable experiences for individuals, organisations and communities. You quickly learn to look beyond the allure of the industry and learn to truly understand the business and organisational aspects involved. You develop insights that will mean the events you create are valuable – to visitors, local communities, economies, cultures and the environment. Over the four years of your studies, you acquire a solid grounding in marketing, business economics, new media, project management, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and communications. The emphasis is on events, but you also gain practical first-hand experience in different leisure sectors such as sports, arts and culture, leisure, tourism, and media. You use this new-found knowledge to your advantage when independently carrying out a project.

Specialisation

Minors are electives in which you focus on a specific subject or expand your knowledge by taking an additional subject. This allows you to truly take charge of your education by ‘customising’ your course.
You can take these minors on the Leeuwarden campus or at one of the NHL Stenden Grand Tour locations in South Africa, Bali or Thailand. You can also choose from minors offered by other courses and universities of applied sciences – this is all part of broadening your academic skills.

  • Event Management (Bali, South Africa, Leeuwarden). Focusing on organising events and projects, you look at how events can be used to build customer loyalty. You also take English-language modules earning certification on successful completion.
  • International Sport Management(Leeuwarden). Preparing you for a career in the sports world, you explore the role sport plays in society. Drawing on your insights into tourism, media and recreation you write a strategic marketing plan or organise sports clinics.
  • Art and Culture Management(Leeuwarden). Focusing on how cultural organisations such as museums, theatres, cultural centres and pop music venues are run, you learn about management, booking events and performances, financial management and arts funding, marketing and art education.

Kastu feedback about the program after the visit
