The MFMC comprises three pillars. Firstly you will scrutinise anything and everything that has to do with finance: from financing start-ups to acquisition for existing companies. The FMC will train you to have all the traits of a prospective CFO, making the second pillar of management a crucial one. Lastly, we focus on control systems as found in corporate governance, asking questions like “how can you devise an efficient data system” or “how does the use of soft control systems encourage consumer confidence?”
The FMC programme consists of four terms. Full-time students start the programme during the first week of September and complete it the following August. Students will follow five classes during the first three terms, with lectures from Monday till Friday (lecture hours vary), and during the fourth term, students will complete their thesis project and won’t have any other classes during that period.
All FMC theory is specifically designed to make you an international financial expert in the new economic environment. Many of our students come from outside of Europe, and have a completely different approach when it comes to management. Consequently the first few terms, we will place extra attention on western management philosophy. Moreover, aside from the standard themes such as Financial Accounting and Organisational Behaviour and Leadership, we also pay close attention to Big Data techniques. Companies from all around the world are sitting on a gold mine of information, ready to be analysed by FMC graduates.
Merging together theory and practice, FMC students also follow a range of practical courses to boost their professional skills. And to further nourish your enthusiasm we will visit a number of international companies to see first-hand how these international companies are tackling today’s financial issues.
The final step will be to write your Master thesis. Many will cringe at hearing that dreadful six-letter word, but not FMC students. While the thesis writing process can be a difficult and draining process, many of the FMC students use it as a springboard to their career. Students usually write their thesis for an existing company, that introduce a financial issue they are struggling with. One success story was an FMC student who, wrote her thesis on the advantages of Bitcoin. Her sponsor company was so impressed they eventually reintroduced Bitcoin as a payment method.
