This programme comprises four strands: Sports Marketing; Sports Studies; Management, Marketing and Events; and Research.

Sport Marketing
Sport is big business and this strand reflects that position. The central themes are those that the contemporary observer could identify with, such as the multi-billion pound value of brands and how to build them; the use and growth of social media as part of a marketing implementation; and the continued growth and changing nature of sponsorship. Amateur sport is by no means neglected, but is considered more within Sports Studies.

Sports Studies
The starting point is how the complex interactions of sport within society set a context for all studies of sport. Sport and its relationship with the media would be an example of a specific topic within a broader socio-cultural exploration. By scrutinising the big issues impacting sport it is possible to appreciate what the world of sport can tell us about the past, the global importance sport has achieved today and what sport might become in the future.

Management, Marketing and Events
Expertise within the Winchester Business School is used to underpin theoretical frameworks across carefully selected and essential study topics within management, marketing or sports events. Within this strand some choices become available as the student progresses; choices can reflect specific research interests, career choice or both.

Research
The Research strand seeks to develop a familiarity with both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and apply these to various sport and exercise contexts. Students learn how to design a research project and consider the sequences of the research process - from idea and proposal to analysis and dissemination. The focus begins with skills for study and skills for employment - employability underlines all other values. It moves to a marketing research basis to reflect the professional nature of the Dissertation.

Study Abroad (Sport)
To help develop an international understanding of sport, students may take the Study Abroad (Sport) module which is currently based around an intensive student and staff exchange with Eastern Illinois University in the United States.

Career opportunities for sports graduates are increasing in nature. Sports, leisure, tourism, management, education, research and health are all relevant graduate pathways for students completing an academic sports programme. Students develop a wide range of transferable employability skills including the ability to communicate effectively and work both independently and collaboratively. These skills are valued in a range of graduate careers, including those not directly related to sport. Many students also continue on to study for postgraduate qualifications to further enhance their employability.

The Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) record collects information about what those completing university go on to do six months after graduation. The Careers Service undertakes DLHE on an annual basis through surveys and a data collection process. DLHE is designed and strictly controlled by HESA.

While DLHE provides accurate information about first destinations, this data needs to be viewed with some degree of care. Six months after leaving university is often a time of much uncertainty and change for leavers; many will be unsure of their long-term career plans and may take a temporary job or time out. The destinations of graduates only six months out of university do not necessarily reflect longer term career success and are therefore a crude measure of employability. Therefore, DLHE data should be viewed as merely a 'snapshot' of one particular year's experiences at a specific point in time.
