Do you recognise that we live in a globalised world with challenges as security, migration, social inequality and climate change? Do you want to help design solutions for these challenges? Then choose the one-year Master’s in European Studies: an internationally oriented programme.

Managing Europe is a complex challenge. The Master’s in European Studies gives you the expertise to operate in this fascinating environment where various levels of government come together.

The Master’s programme in European Studies will provide you with the skills and conceptual tools to engage in descriptive, explanatory and normative research and analysis of the political and administrative issues of Europe. The entire programme takes a comparative approach, looking at the interactions between national and European bodies, the place of the EU in the world, and their effects and the ideas behind these processes.

The courses you will take include Global and European Challenges, International Relations and Politics and The Global and EU Legal Framework.

A combination of academic rigour and practical relevance, a cross-disciplinary perspective and a strong focus on the EU are the mainstays of this programme. You will gain relevant core knowledge across the broad spectrum of the European Union and acquire specialised expertise in your choice of electives.

There is a huge and growing demand for European experts capable of responding effectively to the challenges of European integration. The Master’s in European Studies will equip you with a broad understanding of the inner workings of Europe and prepare you for a wide range of jobs in government, the private sector or non-governmental organizations such as Greenpeace.

PROSPECTIVE EMPLOYERS

Prospective employers include government ministries, local authorities, consultancies, international organizations, businesses and trade unions. You might also pursue an academic career, carrying out research into European issues at a leading institute, a university, in private enterprise or with a government research department.

You could well end up working for one of the European Union’s many agencies or for one of the hundreds of lobby groups in Brussels whose aim is to influence European policy. However, the EU’s operations in Brussels are less extensive than people often imagine. The majority of European-level decisions are in fact developed by, and taken in the separate member states.

Whichever career path you take, you are sure to find yourself searching for solutions and working out compromises together with your counterparts from other countries. Studying alongside an international group of students on the European Studies programme is therefore excellent preparation for your future career.
