The Artificial Intelligence Master's programme at Radboud University has a distinctly cognitive focus where computational modelling is the central methodology used to understand naturally intelligent systems, build artificially intelligent systems and improve the interactions between natural and artificial systems. Students can choose one of two specialisations: Cognitive Computing or Intelligent Technology.
Specialisations

Intelligent Technology. Are you interested in human-centered technology for a responsible future of society? This interdisciplinary specialisation studies and develops intelligent systems, from medical AI, to artificial agents, to human-machine interfaces.

Something for you?

  • You will study advanced AI methods and artifacts that can make a crucial difference for human well-being, such as neurotechnology, brain-computer-interfaces, speech recognition, and vision and auditory prosthetics.
  • You will learn about the societal impact of AI and learn to understand ethical considerations with respect to AI.
  • This specialisation focuses on the application of AI techniques and principles in healthcare, assistive technology, human-robot interaction, and other application areas.
  • You will work with stakeholders and companies on actual problems for which novel solutions are sought.
  • You can combine this specialisation with another related programme, for example Data Science, and apply for an exemption of 60ECs.

Cognitive Computing. Understanding biological intelligence and developing artificial intelligence are highly synergetic research endeavors. To do either we must do both. In this interdisciplinary specialisation, you follow both directions with a focus on research.

Something for you?

  • You will study exciting topics at the forefront of cognitive AI, such as brain-inspired computing, deep neural network technology, and the foundations of cognition.
  • You can specialise to become an expert in machine learning, in computational neuroscience, or in formal and computational modelling.
  • This specialisation is closely tied to the research done in the AI groups at the Donders Institute: You will have the opportunity to actively work with our staff members on research projects.
  • You can combine this specialisation with another related programme, for example “computer Science: data science” and apply for an exemption of 60ECs.

Top facilities
The programme is closely related to the research carried out in the internationally renowned Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. This institute has several unique facilities for brain imaging using EEG, fMRI and MEG. You will be able to use these facilities for developing new experimental research techniques, as well as for developing new machine learning algorithms to analyse the brain data and integrate them with brain-computer interfacing systems. You will also cooperate with the Behavioural Science Institute and work in its Virtual Reality Laboratory, which can be used to study social interaction between humans and avatars.

This programme was rated number one in the Netherlands in the Elsevier Best Studies 2013 survey.

  • IELTS – 6.5
  • TOEFL – 90
Svarbūs reikalavimai

There are two specialisations that are part of the Master’s programme in Artificial Intelligence. Both specialisations have their own specific admission requirements. In order to be admitted to the Master’s programme in Artificial Intelligence, you will need to meet the general admission requirements as well as the specific requirements for the specialisation of your choice.

General Requirements

1. Completed Bachelor’s degree

A completed Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from a Research University in Artificial Intelligence or a related programme with a comparable content that sufficiently prepares for an advanced Master’s programme in AI. An acceptable candidate should have:

  • Substantial knowledge of Computer Science (in particular sufficient programming experience and software development experience, at least 15-24 EC)

  • A sufficient Mathematics background (knowledge of calculus, linear algebra, statistics)

  • A broad knowledge of core Artificial Intelligence techniques (such as logic, machine learning, search & planning, reasoning under uncertainty) at an introductory level (12-18 EC)

Specialisation specific admission requirements for Cognitive Computing

In order to be eligible to this specialization, a candidate should also have demonstrable knowledge (at least 18-24 EC) in disciplines such as cognitive science or cognitive neuroscience as well as more advanced knowledge of Artificial Intelligence methods and techniques such as neural and Bayesian networks and computational and formal modelling.

Specialisation specific admission requirements for Intelligent Technology

In order to be eligible to this specialization, a candidate should also have demonstrable knowledge (at least 18-24 EC) in disciplines such as robotics, computational linguistics, or ambient intelligence as well as more advanced knowledge of Artificial Intelligence models and techniques such as data mining and multi-agent systems.

Our Artificial Intelligence graduates have excellent job prospects and are often offered a job before they have actually graduated. Many of our graduates go on to do a PhD either at a major research institute or university with an AI department. Other graduates work for companies interested in cognitive design and research. Examples of companies looking for AI experts with this specialisation: Webpower, Google, Facebook, Philips, Booking.com, Philips, Rabobank. Some students have even gone on to start their own companies.

PhD research
Many of our students go on to perform PhD research in the Netherlands or abroad, filling positions at for instance:

Companies
Others go on to perform research in a business environment, or even start their own companies, applying AI techniques in a variety of fields.
