Can the interests of employees and of organisations co-exist? What is the impact of the ‘gig economy’ on employee relations? What are the drivers behind communication, change and motivation? So much can be uncovered by delving into people’s behaviours and interactions with organisations and society.

This degree focuses on understanding humans – the way they work and how their behaviour can be influenced through people management practices. We won’t teach you how to become a manager. Instead, we will explore the perspectives of both employers and employees. Join us in challenging the assumptions behind human resources and how people are managed.

You will study management theory alongside psychology, sociology and history. You will also spend a year studying overseas.

Our teaching approach blends academic material with practical insights and exercises. You will be taught by academics who are tackling the big questions of the day such as Artificial Intelligence, ethnic and cultural diversity and technology.

In your first year, you study Management and Organisational Behaviour, selecting two more subjects. The most useful options are from Social Sciences or Management School, but the choice is yours.

You will spend your second year at one of our partner universities abroad. Here you can explore another culture while deepening your understanding of Human Resources Management. You will also choose from topics such as Managing People or Business Ethics.

The final year sees you selecting from options such as International Human Resource Management, Ethics and Sustainability, and Organisational Change.

This degree will give you a critical understanding of the complex world of work and organisations. If you are interested in how to create a happy, efficient workforce, this degree can put you on the path to a career in people management.

Lancaster University will make reasonable endeavours to place students at an approved overseas partner university that offers appropriate modules which contribute credit to your Lancaster degree.  Occasionally places overseas may not be available for all students who want to study abroad or the place at the partner university may be withdrawn if core modules are unavailable. If you are not offered a place to study overseas, you will be able to transfer to the equivalent standard degree scheme and would complete your studies at Lancaster.

Lancaster University cannot accept responsibility for any financial aspects of the year or term abroad.
