Are you excited about education? Do you enjoy working with children and young adults? Our English-language teaching programme could be just for you. We prepare you for a career teaching English as a second language in the lower years of Dutch secondary education, or at vocational or language schools.

You learn what it is to be a teacher and how to teach English language and literature to young people, with a work placement at a training school starting halfway through your first year.

Teacher Education in English is a four-year programme in an international setting and has been taught in the English language since 2015. Towards the end of your second year you will spend ten weeks soaking up Culture and Speaking skills in an English Speaking country. We want to inspire you to become a great English teacher and an inspiration to your students. Within two months of studying you will be in a school or college to start your work placement as part of your training.  About 60% of your teachers are native English speakers. All this makes for a truly international programme, preparing you for an exciting career as a qualified English teacher.

Teacher Education in English covers three components:

  • The English Language – Grammar, Phonetics, Literature and such
  • Methodological Practice – How to teach a second language through the communicative approach
  • Pedagogical Practice – the ess ence of being a teacher: child development psychology and such
